Sambursky Eye & Esthetics is proud to provide exceptional facial surgery services for natural looking results, and one of our most requested procedures is blepharoptosis surgery — or “ptosis repair” for droopy eyelids. Our doctors’ knowledge of and experience with the face and its delicate structures allows us to restore your vision, uncover your eyes, and bring out your most expressive self.

What is Blepharoplasty?

  • Colloquially known as a “droopy eyelid” or ptosis, blepharoptosis is a condition where the upper eyelid hangs low over the eye. This usually happens due to an excess of skin or fat, or an issue with the levator muscle responsible for controlling the eyelid.
  • Ptosis can occur due to aging, injury, or as a congenital issue from birth.
  • This “lazy eyelid” can make you appear tired, look older, and distract from your natural beauty. In more severe cases, it can even obstruct your eyes and lead to vision issues such as amblyopia (lazy eye).

During blepharoplasty, your eyelid surgeon will start by making a small incision along the upper crease of your eyelid. Depending on the cause of your blepharoptosis, we will remove or reposition excess skin and fat, correct the levator muscle by tightening and restoring it to its normal position, or both. In certain cases, we may attach the eyelid to other muscles to create a more natural appearance.

Blepharoplasty is almost always an outpatient procedure, and can even be performed with other eyelid treatments; our team will discuss the best course of action for you during a consultation.
